In order for one to be successful in his use of a wireless dog fence like the Havahart invisible dog fence, proper training of the dog is crucial. The overview of the training is as below though there is need to ensure that you follow all the instruction in the manual to the latter without omitting any phase. The sessions should however last approximately 15 minutes, two or three times in a day.
Preliminary phase: flag awareness training allows the dog to become familiar and comfortable with the training flags though with the wireless collar on but with the electric dog fence turned off.
Phase 1: involves a passive training by setting the collar to a tone only to introduce the dog to the trigger zone and teach him to run away from the flags when the alert tone sounds.
Phase 2: involves active training by setting the collar to allow a static correction level that helps discourage your dog from moving beyond the trigger zone.
Phase 3: on-leash distractions that teach your dog to ignore distractions prompting them to go beyond the trigger zone.
Phase 4: off-leash supervision by taking away the leash that will allow the dog to move freely within the roaming area.
Phase 5: dog monitoring where the dog should now be in a position to move freely within its roaming area without crossing into the trigger zone with or without distractions. One needs to keep an eye on their dog after the training is complete to monitor their behavior. Additional training can prove to be of great benefit. After three more weeks of successful dog containment, gradually remove the training flags, one every few days.
Note that each training face takes three days. Training on the use of this type of wireless dog fence should be adjusted differently for dogs since they have different abilities and capabilities.
